Tribeca Rooftop

New York, NY

The Metropolitan Home’s Showtime House is an annual display of interior and exterior spaces with designs inspired by six of Showtime’s original series. This year, DLANDstudio used the show Californication as inspiration to transform a 1,000 square feet Tribeca terrace. The space is designed to evoke The Garden of Eden with an abundance of planting set against sleek, white, modern furniture. The sensibility of creating a California landscape in a Tribeca penthouse speaks to the conflict lead character Hank Moody feels about living in California while his heart is in New York. He longs to be back in the big apple and thus we used Alessi apple dishes and bright red Richard Schultz tables as accent pieces. Mirrored walls and panels throughout reveal hidden views and distort reflections—a delight for both the voyeur and exhibitionist. The overall scene draws upon protagonist Hank Moody’s carnal temptations that continually subvert his desire to be a loyal partner and father.
